Statement
Technology, ideology, architecture, notions of the 'Other', entropy and the prospects of global ruin are at the heart of sci-fi narratives and at the heart of my research. The ideas inherent within science fiction novels are much more loaded than the form they take and I am interested in examining the dystopian visions that they present in relation to current economic and environmental concerns. Science Fiction is, in many ways, an exorcism of a collective cultural unconscious. Even while it serves as an outlet for social commentary and a platform for speculation, the genre but efficiently displays our fears, arranging them for public presentation, comment and verification. Many of my works draw a link between the idea of monument and folly, creation and disintegration.

Biography
Aoife Flynn a visual artist and curator from Wicklow, Ireland. She graduated from Limerick School of Art and Design in 2008 with an Honours Degree in Fine Art Painting and has completed a Masters Degree in Visual Arts Practice, IADT Dun Laoghaire, Dublin. She is currently Art Education assistant at Dubin City Gallery The Hugh Lane. She was part of an artist-led group that set up Occupy Space gallery in Limerick city in 2009. As part of that team, she curated events, talks and exhibitions and in 2010 she founded and edited Occupy Paper, an online publication that runs alongside the gallery programme. In June 2011, she was part of the team that organised in_flux, an artist-led art fair that invited artist-led spaces from across Ireland and Europe to exhibit a project in Limerick City.
Recent writing and curatorial projects include EXIT Limerick, in association with STATIC, Liverpool as part of eva International 2012, and curator of the Visual Art exhibition at Solstice, as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival, Cork city, Ireland 2012. In June 2012 she was awarded Market Studio Curatorial Award, which culminated in the exhibition EU-topia in January/February 2013. As part of her role as editor for Occupy Paper she was invited to speak on the commissioning editors panel for Commissions+ in association with Fingal County Council, Dublin in October 2012 and is currently working towards a new exhibition (Just in Time, May 2013) with MART in association with the Dublin Arts Office at The LAB, Unit 4, Dublin.
